Be active, be smart! Come and join us and share new ideas for Europe in Torino!

In the past year, the Y Vote project has aimed to encourage young people to make informed choices at the European Parliament elections while increasing their knowledge about topics that are relevant for young Europeans. To reach this goal, seven conventions, corresponding to the topics of the EU Youth Agenda, have been organised. As a participant, you will learn about the functioning of the EU and review the recommendations created in previous conventions.

What will follow is an event which will focus on self development workshops for citizenship and exchanges between you and other participants aimed at making you more aware of the variety of information that people receive and widen your spectrum. You will be able to see and discuss these interesting suggestions created by our previous participants as well as leave your own personal mark in our campaign.

Centuries ago the wise Romans said: “Mens sana in corpore sano”, meaning ”a healthy mind in a healthy body”. Trying to achieve this balance, being a student or young professional and taking care of your body could feel like an impossible goal. Health and well-being issues such as anxiety, depression, burnout, high stress and mental illness are rising amongst young people in recent years in Europe. As a result, mental health is identified as one of the next big discussion topics concerning young people in and outside of Europe.

This convention on the topic of “Health and Well-being” aims at achieving better mental health support for young people – in and out of marginalised socially excluded groups. At the same time, the stigma around mental health issues will be tacked, and the social inclusion of all young people in the civil society promoted. Policy makers and experts with an interest and knowledge in the subject are be invited as panellists.

Based on the workshops and exchange with policymakers, participants will draft recommendations about the topic of Health and Well-Being. These will be combined with all other convention results and then be presented to stakeholders: Our Agenda for Europe.

Is it too early or is it too late to talk about voting? That’s the question AEGEE-Tartu and Y Vote are asking in a panel discussion on the topic of youth participation in democratic decision making.

In the 2014 EU Parliament elections, the turnout among the youth (18-24) was record-breakingly low: 28% [source]. When asked for the reasons, the answers indicated that young people don’t feel connected to the European Union and it seems that political campaigns in the last weeks before the elections are not enough to engage the next generation. So we ask: what to do and when to act? Everyone is welcome to discuss, argue, agree and disagree!

Have you ever met your political representative? And if so, did you just shake hands or actually have a meaningful discussion? When politicians interact with young citizens, it needs to be more than a photo op. Politicians should take the time to listen to the worries of young people and discuss possible solutions to the most important issues. And communication shouldn’t stop after the meeting. But how can we follow up on the ideas we discussed and find out what has come of them?

Update: The outcomes are now online!
